Port Hedland Leisure is dedicated to making fitness and wellbeing accessible to everyone – both in the gym and the pool.
Alarmingly, current findings indicate that the risk of drowning among individuals on the autism spectrum is 160 times greater than that of the general population.
It's a sobering statistic that underscores the importance of specialised swimming support, however providing neurodiverse swimmers with the assistance they need can be a challenge.
To more fully serve the needs of the community, our instructors receive specialised training, resources, and ongoing support to better understand the unique sensory, behavioural, and communication needs of neurodiverse swimmers.
Our instructors also work alongside families to ensure that each swimmer is taught in a way that's aligned with their needs – whether that means modified instructions, quieter environments, or increased visual support.
We also ensure that our teaching practices are aligned with internationally recognised standards in inclusive aquatics, and we are proud to have recently received accreditation as an approved provider by Autism Swim, the global authority in inclusive swim education.
This accreditation reinforces our commitment to continually refining our programs to stay inclusive, supportive, and impactful.
We welcome enquiries from parents, carers, and support professionals who would like to learn more about our programs.
